The Gold Coast Film Festival is celebrating women in film – from directors to screen writers, actresses and makeup artists, The inaugural Women In Film Luncheon is at QT Bazaar Restaurant on April 10. Special guests are Australia’s most respected movie critic, Margaret Pomeranz and her daughter-in-law, Philippa Whitfield Pomeranz, a producer, director and co-creator of TV series Fashion Bloggers.
In 2013, women accounted for just 16% of all directors, executive producers, producers, writers, cinematographers, and editors. And,only one woman, Kathryn Bigelow has ever won an Academy Award for Best Director. It’s clear the film industry is one that needs to address its gender imbalance.
